How I learned to crochet – Part I

Bereisheit

I would have to say that my first love is crochet. I adore it for its expansive and versatile expression, its three-dimensional nature, and its portability. Knitting demands that you complete the row of stitches before switching focus, but crochet can be dropped on the current stitch at a moment’s notice.

A passion that blossomed with crochet was an addiction fascination with the endless varieties of yarn. My stash built up rapidly. I soon realized that knitting, with its two-dimensional nature, would be a better medium for some of the thicker yarns I had acquired. Knitting had another thing to recommend it, the fact that it uses up less yarn than crochet! With crochet, it seems like I blink and find I’ve reached the end of the skein. Because my stash yarn “collection” by now featured many single skeins, it seemed I would HAVE to take up knitting if I was ever going to turn individual skeins into projects. I am now both an avid crocheter and knitter.

The confession above illustrates how lopsided the relationship between me and my stash has become. As expressed by the Yarn Harlot, every knitter must strive to ensure that s/he is the boss of the stash and not the other way around. A major goal of this blog is TO CONQUER THE STASH!
